DramaConsider the dramatic arc if you write a scene.
Watch a Shakespeare play Design a costume for a character. Draw the costume or make a model or wear it and take a photo of yourself! Explain who the character is and why you made the design choices you made. Watch Twelfth Night, the Bigelow musical, available starting Friday at 7, and write a review! Good reviews are thoughtful and include details about what you did or didn't like, and why. My personal two favorite reviews are this one and this one. Write a short scene. Directions here! Learn a Broadway dance combination! Film yourself doing it and send me a clip! Read a short play with someone! Or a longer one! Watch a movie based on a Shakespeare play and write a review. Learn some Shakespeare- a sonnet (poem) or monologue to recite during office hours or video yourself Go backstage-watch a video about a job behind the scenes on Broadway! Write a summary/review. Or practice some stage makeup skills! Watch a 10 minute play- choose one, there's one every day at noon, live on zoom- and write a review. |

Week 1-3 Enrichment activities- optional but fun!
6th grade drama: You can still write your play! The playwriting template is on my website if your group did not get to that yet. You may need to be flexible- not everyone in your group may be able to work on this, so you might need to write more than one scene, or team up with a buddy who’s not in your group.
7th grade music: If you have a mac, ipad, or iphone, you can keep working with garageband (although you’ll have to start a new project.) Instructions on my website. If you don’t have Garageband, soundtrap is basically the same thing but for any kind of computer. https://www.soundtrap.com/
8th grade drama: For those of you who are interested in acting, pick a scene from my website (or find one on The Internet) and rehearse with a sibling, or a friend on zoom! For those of you interested in tech, you might want to sew some face masks for doctors, or watch a makeup tutorial online, or build a model set in a shoebox.
6th Grade Chorus: You know what? Now is the PERFECT time to write your own verse to I Lift My Voice. (Boy am I glad we went over that in class, my little giraffes.) You can refresh your memory of the tune here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfGLYwfYVsg
The formula is:
When I lift my voice, let (it/me/us) (three syllables ending in X)
Second line is anything you want, ten syllables, ending in something that rhymes with X
Post your verse on the google doc on the chorus page. That is also where I’ll post links to sheet music and videos of our songs.
Or share a cool choir video here!
7/8 Chorus: If you have Amazon, now is the PERFECT time to finish the movie about Estonia. It’s called The Singing Revolution, and a great reminder that while this sucks, well, we are not the only folks to deal with hard things, and singing about it can, in fact, not just help but actually be a catalyst for change. You can then write a reflection about something that you noticed, inspired you, or made you think on the google doc on the chorus page on my website. That is also where I’ll post links to sheet music and videos of our songs.

Bigelow Beats: Looks like you’ll all have time to finish those arrangements after all… I’ll also post links to sheet music and videos of our songs so you can practice while at home. Or share a cool choir video here!
Twelfth Night students: Video coming soon, Elijah is working hard on it, I promise! In the meantime, try to run through all your songs and dances at least twice a week. If we get back to school before June 24- and I absolutely have no idea if we will, as I am still not an epidemiologist- we are performing our show. Meanwhile, post a video to #sunshinesongs, watch some of the cool videos our Broadway friends (who are in the same boat) are posting, and watch a musical online. https://www.townandcountrymag.com/leisure/arts-and-culture/g31742627/how-to-stream-watch-broadway-shows-at-home/
Thinking of all of you,
